Yoav Franko ("we", "us") built the Workout Planner app for Garmin watches as a free app. This page explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The short version: Workout Planner never sells your data. Your workouts live on your device, and if you choose to connect your Garmin account, your activity and health data is used only to plan your training - nothing else, and you can disconnect and delete it at any time.
Information we collect
Your workouts. Workouts you create are stored locally on your device. We do not have a server that keeps your workout library, and we cannot see it.
Sending a workout to your watch. When you tap "Send to watch", the app encodes your workout as a standard FIT file and uploads it briefly to a relay service we operate (hosted on Cloudflare Workers), so your watch can download it. The uploaded file contains only the workout structure - sport, steps, durations and targets - and is stored under a random identifier. It contains no name, email, account or device identifier. The file is automatically deleted after 24 hours.
Sharing workouts with friends. "Share with a friend" exports your workout as a file and hands it to your device's share sheet (WhatsApp, AirDrop, email and so on). The file travels through whichever app you choose - it never passes through our servers, and we cannot see it. Shared files contain only workout data.
Garmin activity and health data (optional). If you choose to connect your Garmin account, you authorize the app through Garmin's official Connect APIs. Authorization happens on Garmin's own consent screen - we never see or store your Garmin password. With your consent, the app receives:
- Activity data - summaries of your recent activities, such as sport, date, duration, distance, pace and heart-rate figures. We analyze these to understand your recent training and to suggest and schedule your future workouts.
- Health metrics - daily wellness measurements such as sleep, resting heart rate and heart-rate variability. We use these to improve what the app schedules and when - for example, suggesting an easier session after a poor night's recovery.
This data is used to build your training plan and recommendations, and for nothing else. We do not keep a server-side copy of your Garmin history: data is processed when needed and anything retained for the connection to work is limited to the minimum, linked only to your connection, and never shared or sold. You can disconnect your Garmin account at any time - in the app or from your Garmin Connect account settings - which immediately stops all access, and you can always ask us to delete everything (see "Data retention and deletion" below).
Usage analytics. The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features are used, so we can improve the app. Analytics events are limited to actions such as "workout created" or "workout sent", together with basic context such as the sport and number of steps. They do not include the content of your workouts. Like any Firebase Analytics integration, Google automatically collects certain device information, such as device model, operating system version, app version, an app-instance identifier and approximate location derived from IP address. You can read more in Google's Firebase privacy documentation.
Crash reports. The app uses Firebase Crashlytics so that when the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent to Google and made available to us. A crash report includes technical information such as the device model, operating system version, app version, the state of the app at the time and a stack trace. Crash reports do not include the content of your workouts.
Advertising. The app may display ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect data such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address, coarse location and information about your interactions with ads. Where the law requires it, you will be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown - on iOS this is done through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and in applicable regions through a consent dialog. You can learn how Google uses this data in Google's advertising privacy documentation.
What we do not collect
- No account or sign-up - the app has no login, so we hold no profile about you beyond the optional Garmin connection described above.
- No health or activity data unless you explicitly connect your Garmin account - and if you do, it is used only to plan your training, never for advertising, and you can disconnect and delete it at any time.
- No selling or renting of data to anyone, ever.
Service providers
The app relies on a small number of third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase (analytics and crash reporting) - privacy information
- Google AdMob (advertising) - privacy information
- Cloudflare (hosts the workout relay; as our infrastructure provider it may process standard request metadata such as IP addresses) - privacy policy
- Garmin (wireless delivery to your watch travels through the Garmin Connect Mobile app and Garmin's Connect IQ platform; the optional account connection uses Garmin's Connect APIs under your consent) - privacy policy
Permissions
On iOS, the app requests Bluetooth access solely to send workouts to your Garmin watch through Garmin Connect Mobile. On Android, the app requests storage access only on older Android versions, solely to open workout files shared with you. The app does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts or photo access.
Data retention and deletion
- Workouts on your device are yours - deleting them in the app, or uninstalling the app, removes them.
- Files uploaded to the relay for watch delivery are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
- Garmin activity and health data is processed to build your plan, not hoarded - we keep no copy of your Garmin history, and the minimum kept for the connection to work is deleted when you disconnect.
- You can always delete everything: disconnect Garmin in the app, or email us and we will delete all data associated with you, including the Garmin connection, within 30 days.
- Analytics, crash and advertising data is retained by Google according to its standard retention settings. If you would like data associated with your app instance deleted, contact us at the address below and we will handle the request.
Security
All network transfers use HTTPS, and relay uploads are stored under unguessable random identifiers until they expire. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, so while we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
The app and this website may link to external sites, such as the App Store, Google Play or the Garmin Connect IQ store. Those sites are not operated by us, and we advise you to review their privacy policies.
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with an updated effective date, and are effective immediately upon posting.
